Question: I'd like to know what makes schizophrenia uncurable. If schizophrenia is destined to happen ever since childhood becuase the illness is ingrained in the ego, I want to know if ego-death while going through psychosis can actually remove the old ego and turn the illness into ego dystonic state, eventually making the illlness curable. I also want to know whether a patient with schizophrenia who have went through the process of ego death would have better prognosis in a very long-term timeline.

Brief Answer:
Chemical changes

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir,

I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but what makes mental illness a chronic disease is the underlying mechanism of occurrence, which involves abnormal chemical reactions and change in chemical balance happening in patient’s central nervous system.

As for ego death, the response of patient’s vary widely depending on their mindsets. Some patient’s may respond positively while in others it might provoke panic and anxiety.

I hope you find this helpful

hi :) I went through ego death multiple times in the treatment process and I felt panic and anxiety for unexpected emptiness and change in character but the last time I lost my ego as grossly disorganized behavior got healed, I was informed of what is going on and I felt good since I have no symptoms left for dramatic change in my illness since the only symptoms I have is mild avolition. I know that ego death won't happen again. If the chemical imbalance the core problem of schizophrenia, are all schizophrenics destined to be medicated with antipsychotics for life? I take invega and abilify, and I hope I can cut off invega someday in the future since it's causing low libido.

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, Hello again.. You can get off medications if behavioural therapy leads to hopeful results in controlling your symptoms and makes you able to maintain a healthy life without medications.. This should be done under your doctor’s guidance and supervision.. don’t withdraw medications on your own.. I hope you find this helpful

okay so I should not quit my drugs even if I recover fully.. when schizophrenics recover fully, does cognitive impairment recover to premordial levels? If not, why does cognitive impairment linger long after all the symptoms gone?

Brief Answer:
Promising results

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, Hello again.. Ego death results vary widely from one person to another, and in some patients the results of ego death are very encouraging with subsequent remission of the disease.. schizophrenia like many chronic diseases as for example diabetes are incurable but controllable and patients can lead a healthy normal life while on therapy either by medications or behavioural therapy.. I hope you find this helpful..
