Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I have read your query and here is my advice.
In most of the cases, carotid artery dissection (spontaneous or traumatic) can be treated successfully if the correct diagnosis is achieved and treatment is started.
However, this is a condition that in a percentage of cases (around 5%) may result in fatal outcomes.
A number of factors (such as age, previous health status, time to diagnosis and treatment, etc.) can influence the outcomes.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Early diagnosis and treatment increases chances of favorable outcome.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Early diagnosis and treatment for carotid artery dissection increase the chances of a favorable outcome.
So, if the patient was transported right after the accident at the hospital, chances of surviving should have been higher, however, it is difficult to give you a precise percentage.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to discuss with me if you have further questions.
