Brief Answer:
further evaluation needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...
I can understand your concerns...

Well, what you describe, could possibly be due to some vascular malformations secondary to that injury or could even be due to some other types of swelling (a cyst/collection of fluids or even lymph nodes)...

To diagnose specifically, a thorough clinical examination of the area is needed (by either your physician/a general surgeon), management will be based on the findings...

Meanwhile, kindly let me know the following so that I can assist you further:

Is it painful?

Is there any skin discolouration/redness over the area?

When it bulges out if you press on it gently from the other side can you see any increase or decrease in its size apparently?

Do you see any visible pulsation over the bulge?

Could you kindly upload a picture of the bulge to the 'Reports Section' of this web-page, that'll be really helpful in narrowing things down to some extent...

Let me know if I can assist you further...
Wish you good health...

Take Care
Kind Regards

Hello,

It only pops out when my arms are up. It’s not painful and doesn’t pulsate. When I put my arms up there’s just pressure when it bulges in a certain spot. It’s soft to touch and gushy. I don’t believe it’s a lymph node due to how it feels. I’ve uploaded a picture for you.

Lastly, the bulge was never there before over stretching.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,
Thanks for these additional details...

However, I'm still waiting for the picture as there are no attachments to review till now...alternatively, you can also email them to YYYY@YYYY by keeping the subject as ATTN:Dr XXXXXXX and I'll receive them...

Now, regarding the swelling, as you've clarified, the chances of arterial bulges (a more concerning one) are ruled out...No, it doesn't seem like a lymph node either...

However, there's a possibility of it being originated from venous/small capillary insufficiency (could be secondary to that trauma), or some sort of fluid/soft tissue pockets which may've developed afterwards that overstretching related injury, of course...

To determine this, and the exact extent of this swelling, I'd recommend getting an upper limb colour doppler of the venous system along with an Ultrasound scan of the swelling...

If the measured size differences during the investigations aren't found significant, then it can be left alone...Otherwise, if there are cosmetic issues, any residual pain/inflammation of any underlying part, it can be treated accordingly (by mainly a General Surgeon)...

Let me know if I can assist you further...
Wish you good health...

Take Care
Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
The Sternocleidomastoid muscle (neck muscle) and/or the jugular vein (neck vein) seems to be injured

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back,
Thanks for the images...

Yes, I've reviewed them...I can pretty much appreciate the bulge...

It seems like your sternocleidomastoid muscles (one of the primary group of neck muscles) along with the jugular veins (the external jugular vein mainly) got injured due to that overstretching related trauma, and now there's some adjoining tissue weakness resulting in the collection of fluids, hence the bulge...

However, the remaining advice stays the same only, please get an Upper Limb Colour doppler of the venous system along with an Ultrasound scan of the lump to look into the extent of it...

For cosmetic purposes vs permanent cure, I'd recommend discussing with an Endo-Vascular Surgeon as there are several microvascular (laser-induced) surgeries to cure this...

If I may, this, unfortunately, can't be cured with medicines dear...this is a purely surgical issue, hence needed to be treated in that approach only...

Please keep me posted regarding this, as and when required...

Wish you good health...

Take Care
Kind Regards
