Question : I'm asking this question in regards to our daughter who is away at college. Recently (5 Days) and Last night she started experiencing redness and warmness in both knees at the same time (evening in both cases). Not caused by physical activity just out of the blue.
Symptoms lasted only an hour or so then went away completely. No signs of pain and mobility was not effected.
Our thought is it's an allergic reaction to something external but it seems odd as to not have it effect any other body parts.

Also, read it could be tied to Lupus or Lyme Disease but prior to these 2 events she has had no symptoms of either disease so we don't think it's tied to that.

There are many reasons why the knee can get red and warm but generally, these symptoms should last at least for days. The symptoms she experienced do not seem to clearly correlate with a certain diagnosis as yet, especially because the redness and warmth of the knee lasted only for an hour.
Many times, a follow up in time is needed to know for sure what is going on. In this case, because it is just a short history of redness and warmth of the knee and she is now doing much better I would advise you to just keep an eye on it.
Any recurrence of the symptoms or any new symptom is important information to better understand what is going on.
It does not seem to me typical of Lyme disease or Lupus, so I think there is no need to worry about these at the moment. These conditions generally cause joint pain that lasts for days to weeks and even longer.
