Question : I’m having major abdominal surgery a week from today. I knew I was supposed to avoid nsaids and omega 3 fatty acids a couple weeks before surgery, but I didn’t know I was supposed to avoid my other supplements. I’ve discovered that the XXXXXXX hips in my vitamin C can thin blood, as well as the Pau d’Arco I’ve been taking. I’ve been taking a multivitamin as well. I’m very concerned now that I didn’t stop these supplements in time. Should I be worried?

You don't have to worry about taking vit c and pau d'arco before surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I don't think you should worry about this.
You should absolutely avoid NSAIDs and especially aspirin at least two weeks before procedure.
Vit C and pau d'arco supplement are not known to give effects of blood thinning.
There is no special precaution in order to stop taking them before surgery.
You will not have side effects of bleeding if you take them.
You don't have to worry about it.
