Detailed Answer:
Hi. it may not be easy to discriminate between viral and bacterial sinusitis without examination and blood tests, but generally, if there is fever, greenish discharge, headache associated with throat pain, or worsening of symptoms over few days, then this is indicating bacterial infection. If there is less pain, minor headache, clear discharge and no fever then this is more probably viral. Also, viral may become bacterial after some time. If you have any doubts you can have short course antibiotic therapy with azitromicin or amoxicilin. In both cases, rest, adequate hidration, ibuprofenum, decongestants and inhalation therapy may be beneficial.wish you good health. Regards
