Question : I'm taking lithium for my mood disorder. I have bouts of migraine. What painkillers can I take to reduce the pain.

Since you are using Lithium and simultaneously have migraine choice of analgesic depends on the frequency of migraine and dose of Lithium.

The safest medication for this purpose is acetaminophen or Paracetamol.

The triptans such as sumatriptans should be avoided as far as possible as there is risk of serious side effect known as serotonin syndrome.

Similarly NSAIDS medication such as Ibuprofen, Diclofenac interact with Lithoium and can cause lithium toxicity and should be taken under supervision of your treating doctor.
