Question : my baby girl aanya wt 8.85kg, 7 month 10 days, is frequently urinating every 10 min in good quantity. Is it something to worry about.

                                    Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
Does she have increased thirst or appetite also?
Does she cry while passing urine?
Is there any history of fever?
There are two things that are to be ruled out in such a scenario. One is diabetes.
Get a blood sugar level done after examination by your doctor. This will rule out diabetes as the cause. A urine examination along with urine culture and sensitivity will rule out urinary tract infection.
Antibiotics may be required if urinary tract infection is confirmed after investigations.
Hope this helps.
Take care

Hi thanks, she had fever along with lose motions 2 weeks back and post antibiotics cured. she has increased appetite but doesn't cry while passing urine. Her mother had gestational diabetes during pregnancy. Does urine test will cover both diabetes and urine infection? or we have to do blood test for sugar level and urine test for infection. Please suggest

                                    Hi XXXXXXX
You should preferably go for blood test for sugar level and urine test which includes routine examination and microscopy along with culture and sensitivity.
Some times the diagnosis may be missed if we just go for urine test.
Hope this helps.

Hi we received report of urine routine, attached for your reference. .please suggest further. .

                                    Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
As far as that report is concerned it is within normal range and is not suggestive of UTI. If a urine culture sensitivity is done then it may help in confirming that there is no infection.
A normal baby may pass urine 6 to 8 times a day and may be a little more if the weather is very cool. If you baby is passing urine every 10 minutes then she needs to be further examined and investigated.
Second thing that has to be ruled out is diabetes. If the baby continues to pass frequent urine please consult your doctor for a physical examination and blood sugar level estimation.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

thanks for reply...we started noting exact time frequency and will consult physican..but sir blood sugar levels are ok in the report,do we still need to get blood tested for sugar level? we are very apprehensive about blood test on small baby.

                                    Hi XXXXXXX
Sugar will appear in the urine if certain level is crossed. So some times we may miss the diagnosis. So you may require to get a blood sugar level estimated.
A record of the frequency of passage may help to identify if the baby is passing really that frequently. So start recording for a 24hr period.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
