Question : Hello, in January of this year I was producing a lot of mucus in my stool and I am sure this is because I was overeating - I was eating an enormous amount of food because I was very stressed. I was eating a lot of sugary junk food as well. In March of this year I passed an incredibly bloody stool with many large blood clots and my digestion has never been the same. This was also at a time when I was very very stressed out and I was constantly eating fast food. After this episode, I experienced nausea and heartburn for 1 week. Every time I ate something, I would experience a painful headache. I started eating fruits (3-4 servings) and I would have lentils and rice or homemade spaghetti and tomato sauce. However, a lot of the food I ate would show up in my stool undigested. I could see the oranges I ate, sometimes the lentils would go right through me, in the form I ate them in - they wouldn't be digested. Garlic would cause cramps and a lot of pain/diarrhea. What would also hurt - a lot of gas and cramps. Whole wheat would cause fatty greasy stools - so large that I had pain during a bowel movement. Every time I would eat, I could hear popping noises in my abdomen, or gas moving through my intestines all night. I started fasting which helped immensely with my symptoms. I also no longer eat fruits before meals and that has helped give my intestines time to break down the food. However lately, I have been noticing brown strings in my stool, they are thin like strings that move with the toilet water - like jelly. They are not moving at all. But they look like strings in my stool. What could they be? I am very terrified.

Brief Answer:
Irritable Bowel Syndrome probably

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your detailed explanation and it was very helpful for me to understand your concern.

I think you are probably suffering from Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
You should also test celiac and lactose intolerance and maybe a Fibroscopy of the colon to confirm the diagnosis.

Meanwhile, you should:
* Avoid foods that trigger it such carbonated and alcoholic beverages, caffeine, raw fruit, and certain vegetables, such as cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower.
* a gluten-free diet helps even if you are not suffering celiac
* Meet a dietitian for round the clock diet chart
* Use Imodium for diarrhea
* Start meditating daily to manage stress levels.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
