Question : Sometimes it takes up to 10 seconds before I initiate urination. Is this cause for concern? How long should it take?
Brief Answer:
If it's bothersome, and persisting, see an Urologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can understand your concern.
Depending on the quantity of urine in your bladder, if there's no other reason for urine flow to be normal, it takes between, 5-10 seconds for urine to start flowing.
If you feel, it's taking longer of late only, you should get a check-up , by an Urologist. He will examine you, and then may carry out an urodynamic test, to check urine flow. An ultrasound scan of the abdomen may also be done, if needed.
If this feeling is very recent, there's no cause for worry. Just ignore it.
Drink 8-10 glasses liquids daily.
Hope your doubt is cleared.
Wish you well.

So is it normal to take a few seconds before you initiate urine flow? It doesnt happen instantly does it? Truth is I never thought about until now. I just worry that it might be somthing serious, like ms. Are my concerns valid?
Brief Answer:
Have a check-up if the problem is bothersome.
Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Don't worry, unless, you've always had to wait 10seconds or more for urine to come.
Also, only if you feel the need to use excessive pressure for the urine to flow, you're passing urine the way most people pass urine.
If you feel it's taking a long time before urine starts flowing freely, then you'll need to see an Urologist.
Wish you good health.
