Brief Answer:
You have got low medium dose of I131

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
The dose of 15 mCi I 131 might be considered in the mid level in the use of radioactive Iodine for medical purpose like hyperthyroid. For hyperthyroid the dose given can range from 5 mCi - 30 mCi. In cancer patient, dose given usually is 75 - 200 mCi.

According to the 1997 report, patients may be released (from day care center) when I 131 retained activity is at or below 33 mCi. This confirms that you have been given half the dose which is the upper limit of acceptable in a patient who is safe to mingle with the general population.

Significant dose is more than 100 mCi I 131.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
