Posted on Thu, 24 Dec 2015
Question: I have unprotected vaginal sex with sex worker on 19th January 2015. After that dry cough started which never reduced. I tested for alleegy recently and found total IgE level 1200.2. I am suffering from diarrhea sometimes without reason.
I tested hiv 3rd generation antibody after 6 months and then again after 18 months. Both are negative. Can I be 100% sure about the result or there will be possibility of late seroconversion. I never tried PCR test as many places mentioned it is not a diagnostic test.

I was reading an article where it was mentioned that hiv antibody test is not reliable. They were recommending to go for PCR test. Is it true? How reliable is 3rd generation test. My tests were by tridot method and vitros eci.

Brief Answer:
Tridot after 3 months is reliable.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for follow up query.

Antibodies tests are not reliable in the early phase post exposure (until 3 months). Then they are definitely reliable. Moreover repeated tests are definitely more reliable. They tell whether there was exposure to HIV virus by detecting the antibodies.

PCR detects HIV RNA a viral component .So can detect at early stage.
You need not worry as you exposure is too old and moreover it has been repeatedly negative. There are no chance of antibodies to HIV ,so you are totally free of HIV.
Tridot also repeatedly is reliable.
I do not see any need for further HIV tests including PCR.
You can get back for any clarification.

Due to my high allergy I am continuously taking seroflo rotacap powder inhaler since last 1 and half years. It contains corticosteroid.
Can it delay seroconversion?
