Posted on Sat, 5 Nov 2016
Question: Hi, I had protected sex with a hooker and 11 days latter ran a PCR RNA test which was negative. In addition to that, I went for the duo test(4th generation test) at 6 weeks, which also was negative. I just wanted to know, if I can allay myself of all fears and stop worrying? Also, I'm having a little bit of ear irritation, Flem and iirritation of the throat.

Brief Answer:
I think yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Presence of negative test for PCR RNA as well as 4th generation test is almost confirmatory to say that you are not infected for HIV. Considering this you can allay your fears about the HIV infection.

Little bit of ear irritation or throat irritation have nothing to do with HIV infection after 6 weeks and this is unrelated to your sexual exposure.

I hope this helps you.

So, you're saying I can move on from this episode and get on with my life without any doubts? I'm low on confidence thats why because I keep browseing the net.
4th generation at 6 weeks is conclusive right because it detects both antigen and antibodies and by 6 weeks(had I been +), I would have come positive at least on one of them, right?

Brief Answer:
Yes you are right

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Your interpretation of my answer is perfectly normal and there is definite need to stop worrying. Even it will better if you can stop browsing internet on the same matter as it is possible that you will get some stray information which may not be correct.

It is right to say that internet is source of great information but we need to understand that at the same time it is great source of confusion if the searched information comes from unregulated websites.

I hope this assists you further.
Thanks and regards.

The thing is I get a conflicting answer each time. Sir, it was my first i ever engaged in sexual intercourse and it was a drunken mistake. Given that, I've been going through alot of stress and anxiety which has made me to start smoking. Can you please suggest me ways to completely move on from this incident and enable me to relive my life to the fullest.

Brief Answer:
The best way is leaving little time for these worries

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I am sorry to know that you got conflicting answer but as I can see another doctor answered you similarly in last 24 hours and that is enough to confirm the teats.

Regarding moving on although we can go on discussing on counselling session about the ways but I think best way is to leaving little time for these nonsensible thoughts. In other words engage yourself so deeply that little time is left for these thoughts.

I hope this helps you further.
Thanks and regards.
