Question: My AST level was 47 on recent blood test, that was stated as mildly elevated , all other liver tests were normal. Can this increase be attributed to exercise?

My ast levels were 47 up from a year ago(36). I drink alcohol moderatley sometimes a little more. All other luver tests were normal. I have been doing crossfit regularly and not sure this strenuous exercise could cause this increase. I also was taking CoQ10 400 mg for twent days leading up to test

Brief Answer:
raised AST is probably due to alcohol intake.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Thanks for the follow-up question.

Elevation in AST is most probably due to alcohol.
Raised AST/ALT ratio is quite specific for alcohol induced liver disease.

I would suggest you to cut down your alcohol intake (better quit).

In my opinion, CoQ10 and exercises are not the cause for raised AST in your case.

Take low-protein and high-carbohydrate diet.
Take multivitamin supplements (B-complex vitamins).

Hope this helps.

Take care.
