Question : Does my mom who is 90 years old, still get any benefit from taking Alendronate for her bones? She is in a wheelchair & has a very curved back & doesn't walk anymore, but she can transfer to toilet & different chairs. She is in assisted living already needs help with ADL's.
Brief Answer:
No need to stop
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
I understand your concern, but there is no need to worry. My suggestion is to continue with alendronate. It lowers the risk of fractures and you said that she is still moving a little while going to toilet and from one place to another. The worst would be to broke a leg or a hip and to determine her only to lie in bed. After that she would hardly recover and while lying in bed most elderly people get problems with their respiratory system and dementia. So as long as she can, try to encourage her to walk and give her alendronate.
I hope this answer was helpful to you.
