default
Posted on Tue, 16 Sep 2014
Question: I have had what I believe is a tia. I have had a an MRI and an MRA lately that was totally clear. The tia lasted about 2 hours=I was somewhat confused and able to walk and talk but my mind bounced around-
this was 2 nights ago-- i was very tired the next day=-I will see a doctor probably tomorrow. My question--is there proof that aspartame is a possible cause of tias?
Thanks! XXXXXXX C

Brief Answer:
notable risks..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

With respects to TIA and strokes, we talk in terms of risk factors as no single entity is identified as cause of TIA/stroke. For years TIA/stroke are associated with diabetes, blood pressure, lipids, homocysteine, weight, life style and many more factors. Therefore we cannot blame a single factor including aspartame as the cause.

However a few studies (not large scale) found noticeable risks as these sweetners cause weight gain and elevated blood sugars. Tomorrow, your doctor will evaluate for all those risk factors and should you have blood sugar, cholesterol and BMI abnormalities it would be good idea to stop aspartame.

Hope this answers your question XXXXXXX Let me know if you need clarifications.
