Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: Hi, am a 27 year old working mother of a one and half year old boy. I was adviced to take Capsule Autrin (one with folic acid, vit B 12 etc) during pregnancy. I continued with the capsule on and off till now. I still feed my son at night. Can I continue to take this as daily iron supplement ?

Brief Answer:
Get your hemoglobin levels checked.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Autrin is an iron supplement that can be continued. But unless there is a deficiency, taking it is useless. If you have been taking it for so long, it is likely that you have no deficiency of iron, at least in terms of intake. In take case, all that is perhaps happening is that it is getting eliminated in the feces. I would insist you to get a total blood count done. Depending on the findings I would guide you further.

Your body is more likley to be in requirement of proteins. You should take milk, eggs, fish etc. regularly for the same.

Regards
