Brief Answer:
Antibiotics are not for viral fever

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As you have mentioned it was a viral infection (your doctor may have told you), it should be noted that antibiotics don't act against viruses. Viral infection don't respond to any antibiotics, the virus is killed by the body's immune system. The infection is taken care by the body itself and usually takes 5 days. Only treatment is symptomatic with paracetamol for fever and antihistaminics for coryza and cough. Thus the fever responded to body's immunity only with time and not to azithral or augmentin. In future for any viral infections just have patience and symptomatic treatment will suffice...

Hope I could satisfy your query. I shall be happy to help you further.

Actually the viral fever and rash had gone away without any antibiotics. That is it took 1.5 weeks to get her to normal. But her sore throat remained for like another 5 days during which we waited by not giving her any antibiotics. Then after 2days she had a severe fever for about 103 f temp. Seeing this my doc has prescribed antibiotics since her lymph nodes near ear were swollen. Then the doc prescribed Azithral.

Brief Answer:
Azithral would have been sufficient

Detailed Answer:
Sore throat may be due to viral or bacterial infection. Thus prescribing Azithral was absolutely fine. But Azithral usually takes 6 days to show result, usually there are no community acquired infection which don't respond to Azithral. Sticking to the same antibiotic would have given the same result. Changing antibiotics is not a good practice.
