Question: Hi, I am a 79 year old female. I had cataract surgery in my right eye 2014. I started to see blurry again and was told I needed yag laser
Capsulotomy. I went to get the procedure done but my blood pressure was high, the procedure was cancelled. I have white coat syndrome and suffer from GAD. I was extremlely nervous. I recently went to my internist and she told me I don’t have HBP but suffer from anxiety. I take my BP everyday, not on medication. I really need to have the laser done, any suggestions? Is is necessary to take my bp. I understand the procedure takes about 10 minutes. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
May have low dose antihypertensive on the day of procedure

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes, BP needs to be controlled before any procedure, and nobody will do any procedure with elevated BP, even if you are not a hypertensive.

Now, you try to calm yourself before the procedure and for that may visit the center a bit earlier, have some rest there and then take BP readings. Also, you should request your internist for anti anxiety medicines for 2-3 days prior to procedure like Ciplar LA which will control your BP.

Also, you may request for low dose antihypertensive like Amlodipine and have it the morning on the day of procedure which would prevent bp elevation. So these are the various which you may adopt to prevent procedure cancellation.

Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
