Is BP Of 126/82 During Pregnancy A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Sep 2015
Question: Hello I'm 24 years old with 3 healthy children. I've had high blood pressure since my first pregnancy in 2010. I'm 15 weeks pregnant but have not been able to be seen by an obgyn yet. I had an ultrasound and blood pressure taken 4 weeks ago and have a real visit at an obgyn in 10 days. I'm on labatelol 100mg 2x a day and at my only appointment last month my bp was 126/82 or something like that. But I'm very afraid since I haven't had all the regular visits I should have that I may have preeclampsia or my blood pressure got really high and I may have a stroke or seizures. I'm so scared and hate that its so hard to get into an obgyn in this small town. Should I be this worried? In giving myself panic attacks :(

Brief Answer:
need some details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to HCM,

I can understand your concerns.

As you told that you have high BP since your first pregnancy.

I need some details before giving my opinion.
1.since 2010 are you on anti hypertensive?
2.did you have any complications in previous three pregnancy other than high BP.
3.what medicine did you take in between pregnancy period?

In my opinion, you should continue your labetalol tablets.

You should keep in touch with your Gynecologist for frequent BP monitoring and testing urine proteins.

Sudden weight gain, swelling in the legs, nausea, upper abdominal pain are symptoms of high blood pressure in pregnancy. Report to obgyn asap if you face these.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Take care.

I've been on labatelol since 2010. Still taking them. They've maintained a good Bp thus far. Is it okay to wait another 10 days to be seen? I have no symptoms at all except I have some headaches but I always have them. My obgyn is books solid so I can't get in yet. I'm just looking for reassurance to help ease my mind until I can be seen. I had no other complications with any pregnancy. And am I able to get protein urine dipsticks at a store to test my own until I'm seen? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
you can wait till your appointment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

First, I would like to re-assure you that you will not have stroke or seizures with 126/82 blood pressure.

You can wait for your next appointment. There is no urgency and 10 days is not a long period.
You should continue with labetolol.

You can take ibuprofen tablets for headache.
As there had been no complications in pregnancy in past, you need not worry.

If you are able to get urine protein dipsticks from your nearest store, its good.
If you are unable to get them, do not worry even then.

Please stay calm. Do not panic.
Wait for your scheduled appointment and discuss these issues with your doctor.

Hope to have helped you.
Take care.
Thanks.
