Is Coricidin Safe To Take While On Benzonatate?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: I am 67 and after traveling came down with much mucous in my chest and a heavy cold. The doctor gave me Benzonatate for the chest which is fine but also gave me Flonase for my cold as he thought it was an allergy. I think it is a cold and the Flonase does not help. I have Coricidin Cough and Cold and am thinking of taking that instead. I have not had any medication for ten hours. Are there any contra indications if I just switch to Coricidin. Anything to be worried about? I have the High Blood Pressure Coricidin as I have high blood pressure but it is not a big problem. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
no known interactions

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Coricidin HBP contains chlorpheniramine (anti histamine) and dextromethorphan (cough suppressant).

There are no known interactions between these medications and benzonatate. They can be safely used together.

You should consider adding a mucolytic (to help break up the mucus).
Eg of mucolytic is guaifenesin (robitussin). There are different combinations of robitussin, make sure not to use the one with dextromethorphan since you are already using this in the coricidin.

Using a lot of fluids would also help with the mucus as well

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
