Is Cyclobenzaprine Safe To Take During Night For Pain Management?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 May 2016
Question: I ve been to the doctor this month for neck pain on my left side of my neck. This pain has been lingering on for a month now. On my last visit two weeks ago the doctor prescribed cyclobenzapr 10 mg and steroid pill pak which I have finished it was a 7 day pak. I only have the muscle relaxer left which I took for a week and a half. I called the nurse today and she informed that it was safe to take the muscle relaxer as long as needed being that I still have pain. I only take it at night. I still have neck pain. Is it safe to continue the muscle relaxer at night? And what should I take for a pain relief or just take muscle relaxer. I have a follow-up appt next week. My neck mainly hurts when I lay on my left side and when I get up my neck feels stiff

Brief Answer:
Cyclobenzaprine is safe to be used longer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Cyclobenzaprine could be used up to several weeks if necessary.

10 mg at evening is safe and avoids possible sedation ( a side effect ) during the day.

If the pain isn't controlled sufficiently by Cyclobenzaprine, NSAID drugs such ibuprofen 400 mg thrice/ day for one week, could be used too.

Warm procedures on neck also should help improve your symptoms.

In my opinion, you should discuss with your Doctor at next follow up appointment about physical therapy too ( neck traction exercises ) as an alternative to improve your condition.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

Brief Answer:
Aleve is okay.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Aleve (naproxen) is okay to be used as an noninflammatory drug.

Heating pad also should be continued.

Do not massage your neck or affected area by yourself.

I believe, physical therapy will improve significantly your condition.

Hope I helped you.

Take care.
