My daughter is 26 years of age. We started noticing this mild darkness surrounding her lips and chin for the last 2 years since marriage. Occasionally she has itching of her chin. Since her lips are often dry, she has the habit of biting/licking her lips. Her diet is normal and she drinks lots of water daily. Recently she has delivered a baby girl and is breastfeeding. Kindly advice treatment.

Brief Answer:
Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcoem again to the forum and thanks a lot for sending the important details.

After analyzing the complete situation I can make out that your daughter has post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) after "Lip Licker's Dermatitis".

This is a common condition where the person has excessive tendency to lick his tongue around the lips. This excessive licking produces an irritation around the lips because of saliva as well as friction by tongue leading to initial redness or small vesicles. The initial symptoms are sometimes not noted and then later on as it heals it leaves behind pigmentation which we call as post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

The most important part in getting better is by abolishing the habit of licking around the lips.

Dermadew lotion is safe and can be applied for multiple times a day. Let it be applied thinly so that it should not be visible to the naked eyes.

Additionally green leafy vegetables and all red fruits are good to replenish new skin.

Again I want to mention that her habit of licking and biting is a must to be avoided.

I hope this information will help you. I will be glad to guide you any further.
