Is Ducray Neoptide Spray Safe And Effective For Hair Loss Treatment?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Dec 2014
Question: Hi Doctor

I have been asked to use Ducray Neoptide Spray for hair loss. But I have noticed that should I comb my hair immidiately after spraying this lotion there is some hair fall and it almost looks like small pieces of hair. Not sure if this is broken hair or new hair coming out from the root as I cannot see the white bulb on them like when they come out from the root.

Is this normal and should I continue using the spray ?

Dear Doctor

Thank you for your quick response and interest in the matter.

- I am using these products under guidance from my endrocrinologist. I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 yrs ago and that doctor put me on Diabeta SR 2 times a times a day. I have borderline diabetes. The issue is my endrocrinologist is in a different city and I am in a different city so she has actually not seen my scalp.

- Yes there is some dryness at the forehead periphery. There is a small bump (under the skin) on the left side top of the head (basically the peak, also where hair fall has been maximum).

- Hair fall is highest on the peak of the left side of the head and the top scalp. It is not severe baldness but the partings seems wider.

- Hair fall has been happening for last 1 year but as I have very thick hair otherwise did not notice it so much as now.

- I am used to washing my hair everyday and I use head and shoulders and my doctor said this could also be the cause as the shampoo is very strong.

- I use Neelabringadhi Ayurvedic Oil and I noticed the days I use this oil my hairfall is very limited. Without this oil the hair strands can be above 100. Today morning including washing my hair and combing it 30 strands have fallen. I have not yet sprayed the Ducray Spray yet.

- Hair fall in pillow (is like 2/3 starnds) and in bathroom(5/8 strands) is limited. It all starts after washing and combing.

- My husband had been unemployed for last 21 months so this could be stress causing although financially we are ok.

- I am a non vegetarian --I love fruits and have them everyday. Infact first thing is the morning is a glass of fresh orange juice with no sugar. It is taken out fresh. I then eat some fruits in the afternoon like papaya, pomegranate, apple, watermelon etc. Green leafy vegetables not much.

Hope I have answered all the queries.

Brief Answer:
“Telogen effluvium”. Various sugestions and guidance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks a lot for your further follow up with all the detailed information.

I can understand your concern for hair loss. After a analyzing the complete condition with details provided I can get that you have basically “telogen effluvium”.

To tell you simply let me explain you some medical facts regarding this type of hair fall.

We have a hair cycle divided into three parts:

1. Growing phase (Anagen): more than 85 -90 % of hair are in this phase

2. Senescence phase(Catagen): around less than 10 % of hair are in this phase and is the phase before falling.

3. Falling phase (Telogen ): a very few percentage of hair.

We have almost 1 lac hair on our scalp and amongst them few percent of hair are in falling phase and then another 0.1% (around 50-100) of hair can fall everyday. At certain times some more of the hair may come in falling phase. These extra of the hair which comes in senescence are actually visible as falling hair.

In your case I can make out certain important factors such as most importantly diabetes and stress as main important cause. Aging in addition has an impact due to less regeneration capacity after the age of 30-35 years.

You have been provided with a good and safe lotion for the same which contains niacinamide, acetyl tetrapeptide and other ingredients which are quite helpful in reducing the hair fall. It takes minimal of 3 months of application for the lotion to show its effect. So if you recently started then should continue it to see the results.

I would like to suggest certain more important things:

1. Eat at least 3-4 different fruits saplings per day. Every fruit is good but you can make a combination of sour with sweet fruits such as oranges, papaya and other of seasonal fruits. As you are diabetic so avoid sweet fruits and also prefer the wholesome fruit rather than juices. Wholesome fruits contain fiber so are good in diabetics. Additionally go for your Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) level as will tell about the control of diabetes in last 3 months.

2. Pulses are good source of proteins. So everyday have a small bowel full of mixed pulses. Add green leafy vegetables additionally in the pulses which contain lot of iron and vitamins in it.

3. Sprouts are the best source of fibers, minerals especially iron, vitamins and proteins too. So add it at-least alternate day if you cannot make in everyday's part of meal.

4. Over night soaked and peeled almonds will give you good vitamin E which is good for the hair growth. 5. Milk and milk products should be included in every-day's schedule.
6.Add green leafy vegetables in your daily schedule.

6.Do light exercises, work out and yoga.
Reduce your stress as all these have bit impact on skin so also on scalp skin and hair.

If I were your dermatologist then would have prescribed you tablet containing Acetylcysteine, Calcium Pantothenate, Selenium, Zinc, Biotin, Copper as active ingredients. You can take these vitamins in the form of biotin, calicium pantothenate and other vitamin B complexes which are available at your local place. Other than this an iron supplementation in diet and in tablet form is also helpful.

Hope the information will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.

"Wish you good health"

Dear Doctor

Thank you for the detailed reply and guidance.

Milk products is an issue. I do not drink tea and coffee at all. I do take yogurt and lassi but this also rarely. I have noticed I have an upset stomach if I consume these especially in the mornings on an empty stomach. I had tried changing my morning juice to lassi in the morning but my stomach just could not handle this.

Just to confirm would the vitamin tablets be known as Biotin and Calicium pantothenate? and Vit B complex is the normal one? Should be taken everyday?
