Is FBS Value Of 148 A Cause For Concern?

Question: I am a 72 year old, very active and muscular woman. I measure 5 feet three inches and weight 154 pounds. My blood sugar level at fasting is 148. Is this dangerous and what should I do.

Hello. Thanks for writing to HCM.

Noted your concern. The fasting glucose level is clearly in the diabetic range.

Please do a HBA1C test which gives the average glucose levels of the preceding three months. If that shows a value of more than 6.5% it would be good to start medications like Tab METFORMIN 500 mg once a day(Since its a prescription drug, i'd advice you to check into your local physician prior to it) in addition to good diet control (as per a dieticians advise).

Please continue to be active. Its likely you have type2 diabetes.
