Is Glynase Safe For Diabetes?
I am a diabetic 2 patient. I am 75 years old. I am hypertension patient also.
For diabetic I am taking Eurepa 1mg 0-1-1. Also I am taking Basalog (insulin) 14 units at night . Fasting sugar is under control , but pp is a laws high 150 to 170.
Recently doctor has prescribed GLYNASE 5 mg in the morning and stopped Eurepa.
My question is " can I take GLYNASE , I found in net that it can not be taken if there is kidney problem and if you are taking Beta blocker . My kidney in not good. My creatinine level is 1.8 and I am taking Betaloc 25 twice daily."
Kindly send your valuable advice.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
1.Tab Glynase contains Metformin and it is contra indicated in patients with Chronic kidney disease.
2. I recommend Tab Voglibose instead of Tab Glynase, however I would like you to repeat liver function test and renal function test after one week. Voglibose can be given in patients with mild renal impairement.
3. I strongly recommend cardio vascular exercises like jogging, swimming , cycling etc atleast 30 min a day, this alone will help to bring down your insulin requirements.
4. Adding more fibre in the form of salads into your daily diet will also help improve your diabetic status
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
