default
Posted on Wed, 2 Dec 2015
Question: I have a possible hiv exposure on 17 October (29 Days ago). After that the symptoms i experienced are ..
In first week I experienced difficulty in breathing.
In second week I have around 10-12 redish itchy bumps on shoulder.
In third week I have an extreme fatigue and light fever. On forth week onward no fever, feeling much better but i have burning in chest and backside in the morning and pain in hands.

Yesterday (29th Days ) I get myself tested for HIV and the result are.

HIV 1/2 & p24 combo test (CMIA) - value 0.06 non reactive.

How reliable is the combo test on 29th Day ?
I am planning to retest after 1 month as well.

Brief Answer:
CMIA HIV 1 and 2 and p24 test is conclusive for HIV 1 after 30 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The CMIA test you have done is fourth generation and is conclusive for HIV 1 after 30 days.

2. Since the report is non reactive therefore it is negative for HIV 1 and 2 antibodies and p24 antigen.

3. Your symptoms are unlikely to be from HIV 1 infection because you do not have antibodies to the infection. In the rare event of HIV 2 infection then you can do the test at 3 and 6 months.

4. I would suggest a complete blood count and clinical examination by a doctor. This will help to confirm diagnosis by doing any specific test.

5. I would like to know in detail about the HIV exposure you had in October 2015.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
Your TLC and lymphocytes are normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. Your blood counts TLC and lymphocytes are normal. Therefore less likely to be a serious problem but you need close observation if new symptoms are found.

2. Keeping the condom break in mind I suggest you get HIV rapid fourth generation test done at 3 months and 6 months. This will test for HIV 1 and 2 antibodies and p24 antigen. If you were in USA then the HIV 2 test was not required.

3. However it is true that you do not have HIV 1 infection. HIV 2 infection is rare but better to get tested for peace of mind. Please note that HIV 2 test is valid only at 3 and 6 months. HIV rapid fourth generation test will test for HIV 1 and 2 infection.

Hope your query is answered.
