Is INR Test Advisable While On Warfarin?

Question: i've have just been prescribed 10mg of apixiban. do i have to have check ups for my IRN.
I have heart failure and due to have a mitral & tuscupid valve operation in due course. I have been taking warfarin previously but had adverse side effects
