Is Lasix Effective In Preventing Fluid Retention In The Lungs?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Apr 2017
Question: I use Lasix according to doctors instructions to prevent liquid retention in my lungs.
I had 2 episodes of liquid retention last year but the last 5 months have not shown any
recurrence either in x rays or by stetoscope.
doctor says this is to prevent a new episode taking 40 mg. 3 times a week. Frankly I feel
much better the days I do not take Lasix. Please advise about the "preventive" benefits of lasix

Brief Answer:
It's advisable to continue with lasix

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir

I understand your concern for your health and wellbeing and I would like to tell you that as you have had couple of episodes of fluid retention in your lungs so it's advisable to continue taking lasix to prevent it from happening again.

As Lasix is basically a diuretic which acts by increasing the amount of urine excretion from the body there by decreasing the fluid volume inside the body. However it also cause the excretion of electrolytes like sodium, potassium along with urine due to which a person feels a little fatigued. To overcome this the dose of Lasix could be decreased. You can make it twice weekly.

Also when you are taking you should get your serum electrolytes and serum creatinine levels checked every 3 months to avoid any significant derangements.

I hope this information will be of help. If you have any doubt you can ask me back or else you can close the discussion and kindly rate the answer.

I wish you good health

Hello again

Detailed Answer:
Yes hopefully, you just need to be a bit vigilant. As if you feel any kind of breathing problem coming up then go back to thrice a week. That will be all.
