Brief Answer:

It's a good choice

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

levofloxacin is great for urinary tract infections but there are many alternatives depending on the patient's medical history, recent exposure to antibiotics, allergies, etc.

First of all, it depends on whether you had a fever or not. UTI with fever will probably go better with quinolones.

Lower UTI (no fever) can be treated with quinolones too but most doctors would reserve them for use against resistant pathogens.

Another thing to consider is the potential side effects. I suppose you're (quite rightly) worried about the musculoskeletal side effects of quinolones (tendinitis).

My personal preference is to avoid quinolones when the patient does sports or has a history of tendinitis unless no other option is available.

I can't say much about your particular case though as you haven't provided enough information.

If you'd like to tell me more about it, I may get a better idea of your situation. Important things to know would be the following:

The presence of fever, your symptoms, how it was diagnosed (the test reports) and your history of antibiotic exposure particularly for the last 3 months.

Hope I have answered your queries.

Take care
