Question: My boyfriend has been taking norco 10's for few years but this past year has been taking 3-5 or more a day, everyday- he was in a bad oilfield acccident few years back where an explosion happened and threw him an unreal amount of feet in the air and and across the size of a football field. He has never stopped hurting and only has relief when he takes the narcos but is ready to get off- he has gotten to where he has an attitude, quck to assume things , & has negative attitude towaeds most everything. I heard of a MDS drug detox program that is an impatient called a rapid methodone detox, is that good to do? ,i also heard of people taking suboxone?

Brief Answer:
Yes methodone or suboxone can help for sure

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

Two issues you have mentioned. One is accident and second is narco(contain hydrocodone- and opiate) abuse.

If accident was so severe and fractures were there(though they healed well), pain of it may lasts long(chronic pain).

Stopping any opiate(like Narco) after excessive use in quantity and duration can cause many withdrawal symptoms. Pain is prominent withdrawal symptom.

If any person who is on opiates and wants to quit, it is good decision. He can be deaddicted/detoxificated by substituting with other opiates and gradually tapering those opiates also. Mostly methadone or suboxone(buprenorphine) is used for this purpose. To prevent severe withdrawal indoor management is needed, so patient is generally admitted for initial treatment.

I hope you got the answer.

If you have any query revert back me with following information.

What did happen first, accident or Narco use?It can help to clarify the cause of pain.

Please specify what do you mean by, "he has gotten to where he has an attitude, quck to assume things & has negative attitude towaeds most everything".

Dr.Chintan Solanki.
