Is Metofix XL 500 The Right Medicine For Type 2 Diabetes?

Question: hello dr my mother she is 51 now and been detected with type 2 diebetese dr has given her medicine metofix xl 500 report attached for your reference .kindly suggest if she can have the medicine as the medicine which she was having before she was feelling uneasy at night .

kindly suggest on the same also wanted to know what does protein +++ mean in the report .

I think you can definitely give her the Metofix XL 500. This should help control her sugars.

As for urine proteins , in long standing diabetics, it is possible that the kidneys may have started getting damaged. That's why the proteins come out in g he urine. Some component of urine infection needs to be considered also. I therefore suggest testing with urine culture as well as creatinine and urea.

As for stomach pain , I cannot be sure cause you have not mentioned the name of the medicine. If you tell me that name of the earlier medicine, I can discuss it's possible side effects and compare it to the Metofix XL if you like.

I have already said that you need to do creatinine test. So please let us know that report. An Ultrasound scan of the abdomen also to be done.

For precautions, I suggest avoiding fruits and high potassium foods like bananas chips. And avoid medicines that damage kidneys like pain killers. And of course, control blood sugar levels.
