Is Monessa An Effective Birth Control Pill?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Apr 2015
Question: My boyfriend and I had sex and the condom broke. I am on a combination birth control (Monessa) and have not missed a pill and I take it at the same time every night (once in a while it is 30min-hour late but it is always taken that night). Should I be concerned? I know that birth control works in three ways and its very effective. How do you know your birth control is working?

Brief Answer:
There is no need for you to be concerned.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
There is no need for you to get worried. As you know Monessa is a very effective birth control pill. Taken in a perfect manner like the way you have taken it is more than 99% effective in avoiding pregnancy. When you translate this into clinical practice the possibility of pregnancy due to contraceptive method failure is less than one in thousand. So you need not worry.
There are no clinical symptoms or signs that you can appreciate to know that pills are working. The only way to find out that they are working is to get your periods at the expected time.
If your period gets delayed by more than a week, because of the remote possibility of method failure, get a pregnancy test done.
If the incident has happened in the first or last week of your period cycle, you need not worry at all. They are safe period. Having sex during that period does not result in pregnancy. I am writing this for your information.
I hope this helps.
