Is Moxicip Advisable When On Treatment For TB ?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: Hi My father is renal transplant patient. He is taking treatment for TB for the last 11 months. He is currently taking Combutol, isoniazid, and pyre. He took moxicip for 9 months but our nephrologist advised us to stop it. But he has been losing weight after that and he is having a mild fever for the last few days. All other tests are okay.

Should we start moxicip 400g?? Is it okay to start moxicip after 2 months gap??

Brief Answer:
MOXICIP must be stopped.re-starting it, leave to nephrologists' decision.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM. assuming, by stating 'all other tests are okay',you mean renal function tests, then the cause of fever has to be found out and controlled at once.such tests usually are blood peripheral smear,CBC,X-ray chest, urine for AFBx3consecutive days- smear and culture, ultrasound of the transplanted kidney, platelets count and LFT. A repeat urine culture is also advisable. If all theese tests are reported normal, a decision regarding graft biopsy will be taken by the nephrologist. for the fever, tab. Paracetamol is given. The dosage will be decided by your nephrologist.Moxicip maybe replaced by another antibiotic. 2000 kcal.diet,6gm salt with 40gm protein will be advised by the dietitician. feel free to consult me with any doubts. get well soon.
