Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Oxyplatin is a good chemotherapeutic agent. But oncologists decide chemotherapeutic combinations after keeping multiple things in consideration. Please rely on the judgement of your doctor in this regard.

                                    Brief Answer:
A number of determinants determine the response to these
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Sorry for not being able to write back earlier. I had lost my internet connectivity.
As I mentioned the response to chemotherapeutic agents has a number of determinants. They are patient related factors like degree of extent and spread. If it has spread extensively, the requisite dose might not be a permissible one thus leading to failure of response.
I would add an extra note. In case of a person where metastasis has already occurred, the ultimate fate is not far, irrespective of what you do. In such a scenario, rather than trying to do whatever you can, it might be better to stop trying to prolong life. Rather you should concentrate on the quality of life he can get in the short duration that he has.

                                    Brief Answer:
There is a difference between some metastasis and no metastasis
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
Iam sorry to say that it does not really make a difference. If metastasis has occurred it is stage 4. Once metastasis has occurred, the cells can be out there anywhere. Even if the chemotherapeutic agents manage to kill 99.99% of the cells, the remaining would again make a comeback. The cells from the original lump or from the metastasis may invade a capillary and enter the blood stream going anywhere it likes.
I do not mean to sound pessimistic. But it is important to concentrate on the quality of life. And you need to be realistic about the expectations.
Hope you understand.

Further details required
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
It is very difficult to predict the life expectancy without knowing the exact details of the type of cancer and the related details which would anyway have been the determinants of deciding the chemotherapeutic agent. Please talk to your doctor about this and I am sure that he would be able to guide you further.
In general the life expectancy is quoted as more than 3 months.
