Brief Answer:
Only elevated PSA does not indicate cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for posting your query.

Only elevated psa does not indicate prostate cancer.

This is a screening test which is one of the test used to screen for prostate cancer.

PSA can rise in many other condition like:

A larger prostate-which may be due to ageing also.
Prostate infection (prostatitis)
Urinary tract infection
Any procedure done which can cause some local disturbances like insertion of catheter, endoscopy through your urine tube etc.

Please do not worry, your doctor after putting all facts together like:your age, physical examination and your complaints if any, will give importance to the report.

If there is anything to suspect,he will advise further testing like ultrasound, biopsy etc.
I hope this clarifies your concern.

Regards,

Dr.Pragnesh
