Posted on Wed, 5 Oct 2016
Question: I am just trying to find out if Pantoprazole SOD is an antacid. I am taking Gabapentin and the Gabapentin bottle says to not take an antacid within 2 hours of taking Gabapentin.

Brief Answer:
No it is not that antacid

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

The antacid for the recreance question is aluminum hydroxide, magnesium and others. It will be wrong to say that pentoprazole is not antacid but it is different from what is mentioned for intake of gabapentin.

In reference to gabapenin, pentoprazole is proton pump inhibitor which is used as antacid but not an antacid.

To conclude you do not need to wait for two hours between gabapentin and pentoprazole.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you. One more thing: I take my Gabapentin (600mg), the Pentoprazole, and Linsinopril all at the same time mid-morning. Do you see any issues with that? I take two more doses of Gaba during the day and one more Pentoprazole before the end of the day.

Brief Answer:
There is no major issue

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Although there is no major issue with this way of ingesting medication but pentoprazole should;d be taken empty stomach.

In my view it will be better if you can take pentoprazole alone and than lisinopril and gabapentin after taking some food.

I hope this assists you further.
Thanks and regards.

Thanks for the additional information. My mid-morning medications are no problem because I don't eat breakfast. All the mid-morning meds are on an empty stomach. I do not eat until sometime after noon. I also take hydrocodone for a spinal issue but that's the pill I take immediately upon getting up in the morning. Sometimes I do not take another hydrocodone for the rest of the day.
Thank you
