Brief Answer:
Should be vaqccinated without any further delay.

Detailed Answer:
Thansk for asking on HealthcareMagic.

You should definitely get your child vaccinated for rabies. Rabies is a lethal disease that affects mammals (including rats as well as humans). There is no way to find out if that rat was rabid. The vaccination should be given without delay as rabies is a lethal disease. There is nothing like an hour limit on the vaccination; its just that any delay poses a threat to life. The doses are to be given on Day 0, 3, 7, 14 and 28 (counting the day of bite as day 0).

Regards

and will it be ok that we wait for one 1 week observing the rat and if he dies after 1 week then we start the course will the course after 1 week be effective then ?

Brief Answer:
Do not risk the life of your child.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Sorry for not being able to respond any faster.
Begin the vaccination schedule immediately. Your concern about the effectivity of the vaccine does not actually make sense. If the rat is not rabid, the vaccine does not matter. If the rat is rabid, vaccination is the only option to save your child, else DEATH is the option. Surely you would not wish to risk that.
The vaccine is given intramuscular. The part of the body does not matter. Could be given at arms or buttocks. Do not bother about such technicalities. The medical person handling the vaccines would know about these and otherwise it need not concern you.
Surely you can risk your child being dead in a week if the rat actually turns out rabid. The choice is yours. You must be quite familiar with rats, knowing how to identify each one individually. I am not that expert in the field and would not risk that.
