Brief Answer:
Please attach the report of complete Liver function test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
I am Dr Kumar a Gastroenterologist and would be answering your query.

As per your question answers are-

SGOT or aspartate aminotransferase, is a liver enzyme. It is also known as serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase. It is normally produced by cells of liver and small levels are there in blood. When ever there is an external trauma or infection or inflammation in liver cells; The cells swell up and enzyme starts to leak out of the cell membrane.Hence levels are elevated and becomes higher than normal. Persistently elevated levels can indicate liver problem.
The normal range of values for AST (SGOT) is from 5 to 40 units per liter.More then three times elevation is significant and thorough investigations should be done to rule out the exact cause.

As you are from XXXXXXX most likely cause of elevation of enzyme can be Hepatitis
.
You have not mentioned the levels of second enzyme named ALT. ALT(SGPT) is more specific for liver damage. AST is different from ALT because AST is found in parts of the body other than the liver-including the heart, kidneys, muscles, and brain while ALT is highly specific for liver. A high AST with a normal ALT may mean that the AST is coming from a different part of the body.

So kindly enclose the complete liver function test for further professional advice.

Initially you should consult a MD medicine or Gastroenterologist.
SGOT is just a baseline test so further tests should be done -
Ultrasonogram of abdomen(To rule out cirrhosis or infection in liver).
Serum bilirubin total,direct and indirect.
Serology(Hepatitis A,B,C and E).

Treatments depends on the cause of elevation of enzymes.

As already told initially the above mentioned tests should be done to decide the line of treatment.

What is the age of your brother?
Is he Alcoholic or smoker?
Any history of unprotected sex from Hooker or freelancers?
Any history of drug addiction?
Previous history of jaundice etc?
Any other detail you want to share?

Kindly answer the following questions and attach detailed reports of liver function tests for further professional advice.
Waiting.

Thanks.
