Brief Answer:
I would prefer hot packs then tens.

Detailed Answer:
Hi , I am Dr Gopal Goel, Orthopedic Surgeon.
In my clinical practice , I lay more stress on Exercises + medications( Short term only ) To treat patients of Disc bulge. Tens may give you temporary relief , but better relief would come from use of hot packs- many variations are available.
As far as TENS is concerned , You will have to see local pharmacist if any re chargeable model is available.
