Is TSH Level Of 31 A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Jun 2017
Question: Hi, I got pregnant in july 2016 & was diagnosed with a tsh of 31. I never had any thyroid issues before. I was taking 100mcg thyronorm tablets during pregnancy to bring down the level to normal range. I had my delivery on april3 this year & was continuing the same dose (100mcg) till now. I checked my tsh two days back & found it to be 0.26. How much should I reduce the dosage to increase the tsh value?

Brief Answer:
lower the dose by 15%;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
Furing pregnancy the needs for thytoid hormones are higher and we recommend to woman that under levothyroxine to increase the dose with 15%-20% ( depending on her weight) once the pregnancy test is positive.
So i would recommend to slightly decrease the dose (do not take the tablet once a week) or take a daily dose 85 mcg ( but it is difficult to devide it).
Check the TSH 6 weejs after, if normal continue with this dose.
Wish you good health.
Kind Regards.
