Question: I recently had a tsh and free t4 test completed results were tsh 5.285 and free t4 0.88 I was told my thyroid is working fine. However, I have a coworker who does have thyroid issues, I showed results to and was informed there is a new guide and I should consult a doctor because they believed my thyroid function is way off. What would you suggest after seeing these results?

Brief Answer:
About TSH level:

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
The TSH level you reported is at the upper normal range.
Yes, the person who suggested you is right, in females who are trying to conceive or during pregnancy, TSH should be under 2.5 mUi/ ml.
But at your age it is considered normal.
Anyway, i would suggest to check it once a year, as as it is at the upper normal ranges and may have a tendency to increase in the future.
For the moment there is no need to start treatment.
Hope i have answered your query.
Will be a pleasure to help you in the future.
Kind Regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
