Question : I have alcohol induced cirrhosis of the liver. I have been alcohol free for 25 years and my liver has been functioning well with most test numbers low but normal. My last test the AST was 42; my ALT was 43. I am having some oral surgery and the doctor has prescribed Z-pak for the infection, I am wondering if I should take it. I have taken in before. I am allergic to many antibiotics and that seemed the safest but now I read that it is toxic to the liver. Can you give me some advice. I am 77 years old. Marianne

                                    Brief Answer:
Go for z pack
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking
I read your question and i understand your concern. With liver cirrhosis and 25 years of alcohol free life and perfectly fine liver enzymes and allergies to many antibiotics , with this recent oral surgery, i believe z pack is the safest option and you should go for it.
As far as its adverse effects are concerned , I don't think it will affect much your liver enzymes, it may cause diarrhea mostly but that is easily manageable with supportive treatment. Just take the medicine and hope for the best.
I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself anddont forget to close the discussion please.
