Question : Is Zolpidem tartrate the same as Zolpidem? And how does it differ from Ambien, as the Zolpidem leaves me grouchy in the mornings while Ambien does not. But Ambien is quier expensive.

Zolpidem tartrate is the salt of zolpidem. Basically the same.

Ambien is the innovator brand of zolpidem by sanofi. So technically all are the same. However, there may be small differences in the formulation of innovator and generics which can explain the difference noted by you.
