Question : Hi dr. I am 29 weeks pregnant. I got my GCT tested today with 75 gms glucose after 2 hrs. sample. It is 149 mg/dl. I got this test done earlier also, when the value was 142 mg/dl and my dr. had advised to make some dietary changes and then repeat this test. Please advise what should be done now?

Brief Answer:
Precautions advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, how are you doing in general?
The value is definitely deranged and you need to follow the diet told to you in a strict manner.
You better visit a dietician and take a good plan of 1800 kcal.
She will give you multiple options and this will give you a break from monotony of diet restriction in general.
Certain things to take care are -
- avoid sugar and sweets as much as possible
- avoid butter and oil
- avoid rice and potato in diet
- take loads of fresh fruits and salads
- in fruits avoid litchi, grapes, kiwi, banana, chikoo and XXXXXXX
Take a 30 minute walk daily and follow all this for a week at least.
After one week of this schedule get a fasting sugar and a post prandial 2 hour after meal sugar.
Get the values and then we can discuss further plan of action.
All the best.

Hi dr. In general I am doing good. Apart from having back pain, I am not facing any other issues.
Also, I wanted to know that in case my sugar level does not come under control, will I need to take some medication? And if there is any threat to my baby?

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, sorry for the delay in response.
Yes you might need to take insulin injections in case your sugars are not in limits from now onwards.
After 28 weeks in general body has poor glucose control and since you areal ready having deranged tolerance you will face more problems in case sugars are not controlled.
Baby can have increased birth weight which might lead to cesarean section delivery and in case delivered before time then baby can have poor lung maturity too.
Keep a note of fetal movement as much as possible. All the best.
