Question : I recently had blood work done and had a few blood tests that were elevated a little. Creatinine 1.4 which is always 1.2 for years. I am 70 years old. egfr was at 40. Haven't had that test for years. If you can comment that these tests are abnormally out of range or ok for my age?

Brief Answer:
stage 2 renal failure

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have had mildly elevated creatinine levels for years at 1.2 and this last set of blood work shows your creatinine now at 1.4 with a egfr of 40. This is early stage renal failure though at age 70 this is not uncommon. Unfortunately as we age the GFR will decrease and the creatinine will increase. This is due to loss of function of the kidneys as part of normal aging. At this time I would not be overly concerned. I would recommend making sure you drink plenty of water and remain physically active. I would also recommend repeating your renal studies to see if you kidney functions are actually declining. Also certain medications can affect the GFR and the creatinine levels. Please give me a list so I can comment on your medications and implications for renal failure

Look forward to your response

Brief Answer:
medications will not affect your kidney function

Detailed Answer:
The list of medications are good and they will not affect your kidney function. So just keep an eye on you renal functions and have your doctor recheck them periodically like 2-4 times a year
