Is A Fissure On The Upper Lip A Symptom Of Metastatic Cancer?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Question: 3 weeks ago, had a suspected squamous cell carcinoma removed, from my forehead, by curettage and cautery. I have since noticed a fissure on my upper lip - could the lip condition be metastatic cancer? The suspected forehead lesion began as a mole of around 6mm.

Brief Answer:
Very unlikely to be.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so kick for this query.

It is unlikely for squamous carcinoma of the skin to metastasize and more so to the lips. Howeverw, I will appreciate that you upload an image for review. This way, I can take a look and provide more insights to this.

let me heart from you before concluding on this. Also, are the pathologist results back to determine the extend of this and to see whether it had gone pass the limits of the excised area.

I wish you well.

As requested, please find uploaded image of the lesion on my upper lip. My GP has not yet received the pathologist's report relating to the biopsy taken from my forehead on 23rd March 2016; also, despite the dermatologist telling me that there would be a follow up consultation within 3 weeks of the procedure, I have not yet been advised of such an appointment.

Brief Answer:
This is not typical of cancer metastasizes!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for uploading the image.

I have reviewed it and it is not very suggestive of a possible cancer. I will suggest that we monitor a little longer. If this fails to regress like most sores of the lip would do within 2weeks, I will suggest that we investigate further. Please, remind your doctors of the said appointment. They might have forgotten about this already.

Keep me posted and informed about your progress and pathologist findings.

My GP is expecting the biopsy results tomorrow, although there is no word on the follow-up appointment with the Dermatologist - I'm hoping this means the results don't warrant such an appointment.
