Is A Gauze Piece Safe To Keep In The Perineal Region After Surgery?

Question: Ok this is a post surgery question. I previously had a lot of pain on sat which posed me to seek advice from your website and I even attached a couple of photos! So Sunday morning I went to the ER due to much needed adice that was given to me here not to mention my pain level, and a hemorrhoidectomy was done on me that day. I was told that a part of my post surgery was a gauze that was packed in me that should fall out by itself in a day or 2 once I have a bowel movement or I will have to remove it! Well yesterday I was on day 3 and my bowels weren't (and still aren't) moving so the gauze was still in me! I called and spoke with my Drs nurse and she explained everything and and said that I needed to take a sitz bath and calmly remove the gauze! Well I tried and my husband tried and now I'm worried because I'm on day 4 now and to no avail!! I felt pressure earlier today like I had to use the bathroom so I went and I tried, but the only thing that came out was drops of bloody mucous! I tried to to gently go in and use that time that my body was finally flexing open but I can't feel anything! That feeling of pressure happened again so I went to the toilet and again just drops of bloody mucous were pushing out of me!! So my question to you is what now? What can i do to remove this gauze, as I feel this is the final bit of discomfort I have to feel from this whole event??! There's scaring and opened wounds like an open cut around my anus and some hard scabby area from where the incision site is trying to heal, so I have to recover from that, but that doesn't seem too bad. Theres also a swollen area only on the side of the surgery around my vaginal thigh area, that I believe is where that packing of gauze is!! So I can feel it I just can't get it! I feel that the gauze is packed up underneath the area of the incision site so it's painful to get out!! Someone please help me find a way to remove this gauze safely please, because I'm over it and just don't feel well!!
Brief answer:
No need to worry. It will come on its own.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Please note.
1. It's absolutely normal to keep a gaze piece after surgeries done in the perineal region.
2. Day 4 is fine.
Instead of concentrating on the location of gauze and why isn't it coming out, please pay attention to
A. Lot of oral fluids
B. High fiber diet, lot of bananas
C. All the medications you have listed.
3. Believe me, it will and it has to come out..
Hope I have answered your query.
