Is Adriamycin The Right Medication For Triple Negative Breast Cancer?
Question: I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2012. Chemo meds Cyclophosphamide,Epirubicin, and Flourouracil, no Adriamycin. Is Adriamycin a better drug, did I get the right treatment, was told Epirubicin is sister drug from Adriamycin, explain please.

Choice of chemotherapy for breast cancer depends on many factors. You were given FEC chemotherapy. I presume you were in early stage and nodes were negative, hence FEC might have been chosen.
As per efficacy, there is no difference between Adriamycin and epirubicin as both belong to the same anthracycline family. But there is difference in toxicity profile. Doxorubicin ( adriamycin) is more cardiotoxic. For patients with heart disease involving heart muscle Epirubicin is first choice. For all others, any of the two drugs can be chosen as first line as per treating doctor discretion. But there is no difference between the two.
