Question : My husband has just commenced neo mercazole for Graves, can he Continue drinking beer? He would have at least 2 stubbies a night normally
Brief Answer:
Both Neomercazole and alcohol can affect the liver.
Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome to Health care magic,
Both Neomercazole and alcohol can affect the liver. With any drug that affects the liver, we have to be careful about alcohol intake. Since both are destroyed by the liver, chances of hepatotoxicity go up. It also depends on what dose he has been advised. If it it is 5 mg or 30 mg a day. That also matters.
I would advise him to stick to one Beer and monitor liver functions at least every 6 months.
Regards
